web design:

things to consider: what type of site do you want

informational
this site contains content regarding your business. what you offer, how you offer, where you offer, etc.
e-commerce
this site is for the sale of products.
database
this site manages information of a population offering a multitude of applications.

i offer: i specialize in informational sites for service based businesses or business that sell their products primarily out of their store and not via their web site. sites can include elements such as forms, video, paypal, schedules, galleries, PDF's, etc...

SEO

s e what??? search engine optimization, very important stuff. this is how people find your site. you can have a really pretty web page on the surface but it is a mess underneath with garbled code. you want it too look good and function as a means for finding your business.

i offer: basic optimization, keywords, meta tags, and listing with all major browsers. i keep up to date on the latest search engine news and i am currently studying this in more detail.

domain & hosting

there are many on-line domain registries. i use godaddy.com for all my domains. you can also host your site with godaddy. if you would like to support a local portland host i can also set you up with that. they rock! if you are sure what you want then buy it it should only cost $4-20. If you would like support and it might be good to wait.

cost

most of the web sites i design cost between $500 - $2000. this website cost $600 in my labor to create not counting the logo. the cost of a site really is dependant on how many pages, how many graphics will be created for your site, how many dynamic features do you want, how much content do you already have written, and how much individual consulting is done?

i offer: my services at a rate of $45 an hour. i specialize in working with clients who are in their start-up phase or are solo-enturpenours. an initial deposit is requested and the remaining fees can be made in payments if needed. working within a budget can be done!

homework

take the time now to look around at web sites you like. find designs you like and note things you don't like.
think about what bits of information you want your clients to have about your business. how many pages do you think it should be in. take some paper and make rough sketches of how you might like it too look. save pictures of imagery your like that you might also want on your site.
start writing the content of your pages. we can edit out stuff later but this information will be very useful. things to think about is your/ventures beliefs, what you offer, why you offer, where you offer, how much, when, etc.

i offer: initial 30 minute (free) consultations to all perspective clients. pick my brain. see my work. meet me and then decided if this feels right for you.

contract

if you feel good about working together we will write up a contract that will discuss the major points of your site/project, outline the timeline, and outline the financial arrangement. i use email as a primary means of staying in connection with my clients and if any of our contract points begin to shift then our emails will be used to reflect our contract changes.
